There are local organisations that can help you with matters such as money, health, banking options and benefits.

Financial Fitness

Financial Fitness is a charitable company providing free, confidential, independent and impartial welfare benefit information and financial support services.

They provide financial advice and support to help you make the transition from benefits into employment, accessing in-work and return-to-work benefits where applicable.

Inverclyde Advice Community

Inverclyde Advice First is a telephone triage providing advice and scheduling face-to-face appointments with Advice Workers. They can help with:

  • Sanctions/benefit changes
  • Benefit entitlement checks

Scottish Welfare Fund

Under the Scottish Welfare Fund, two types of grant are available through local councils. They can help people who are on a low income and are having difficulty because of an exceptional situation or in meeting one-off expenses.

A Crisis Grant aims to help people, typically on benefits, who are in crisis because of a disaster or an emergency. A disaster is something like a fire or a flood.

An emergency may be requiring travelling to visit a sick child or when money has been lost or stolen.

Community Care Grants are made to enable independent living for those leaving institutional care, or continued independent living, preventing the need for institutional care.

The Simon Community

The Simon Community provides a wide range of community based care and support services to people who need assistance and advice in maintaining their home. 

The service works to help motivate and build your confidence with the aim that, in time, you will be able to manage better and enjoy an increased quality of life.

They can help with:

  • Maintaining your home
  • Income and debt management
  • Shopping and cooking
  • Advice on health matters
